I found this photo floating around on the internet and I grabbed it. I’d like to commend the author, whoever that may be, they truly captured a beautiful picture. Images such as this really bring a special kind of joy to my heart and remind me of the day my son was born. I even have a similar picture of my son smiling in his sleep. I would like to think that he too was dreaming of Jesus.
However I was quite disturbed upon scrolling down and reading the comments that were left on this picture. My heart was broken by the bitter, hate-filled comments that so many disillusioned people left.
Comments such as:
“Nope. That’s all fake. There is no God.”
“False, as you can only dream of things you are aware of.”
“We should change the caption to say ‘dreaming of a day when religion doesn’t exist’. ”
“Beautiful picture attached to a lie.”
“Everyone is born atheist.”
I removed the names for anonymity, but those were some of the more tame comments.
Now here’s the truth:
John 1:1-4, 14
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. 4 In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. 14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.
13 For You formed my inward parts;
You covered me in my mother’s womb.
14 I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
Marvelous are Your works,
And that my soul knows very well.
15 My frame was not hidden from You,
When I was made in secret,
And skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.
16 Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed.
The verses from John make it clear that Jesus Christ is God and He has existed from the very beginning. He is the very same God that David wrote his psalm to, when declaring how he was fearfully and wonderfully made.
It was Jesus who knit us together in our mother’s womb. Every child who was ever born was personally hand-crafted by the creator of the universe. He held every single one of us in His hands, kissed us on the forehead and wished us blessings as He released our soul to be born – like freeing a dove into the air to fly away.
Now He waits patiently, hoping we remember that brief moment when we stared into His eyes and prays that we will return to Him.
Of course babies dream of Jesus because His face was the last thing our soul saw before we were born, and for those who trust in Him, His face will be the first thing we see when we close our eyes in this world and open them in the next.
I can’t imagine how much it must break His heart, that not all the souls He released will find their way back to Him. On earth there are lost souls that have become damaged, scarred and severely broken – leading them to spew hate towards the very one who created them. The one who’s face they’ve forgotten.
Yet, one day they will stand before Him to be judged and they will look into His eyes and remember His face from before they were born. Then they will wail and gnash their teeth in agony over their forgotten dreams of Jesus.
