The church today is in the midst of an identity crisis – particularly in the American church.
We have an unhealthy disassociation with what (actually who) the church really is. We’ve mentally separated ourselves from being the church and placed the idea of the church onto a building of wood and brick.
This may come as a shock to some, but these fancy buildings that we see on the sides of the road with their denominational tags and pretty steeples, these are not churches – the true church has no denomination. The people inside attending service, singing, praying, acting – they aren’t the church either (although some of them might be.) (more…)

Through most of my life I was poor.
As a kid neither of my parents worked – we lived off of welfare.  The family car was a beat up clunker that was given to us and living conditions were cramped, having to share a room with my sister. (more…)

If there is one single area of Biblical teaching that I would have more authority on than any other it would be the subject of end times date setting. If there is one lesson I have learned above all it is to avoid at any cost the pitfalls of trying to calculate the return of Christ – Because this is unknowable.

Let me repeat that. If there is a single lesson that I am most qualified to teach it is this – BEWARE the snare of date-setting! I have learned this lesson the hard way and if anyone has the right to warn against it, it’s me. Do not fall into the trap of trying to calculate the return of Christ, FOR THIS IS UNKNOWABLE! Father God,

We live in a sad and broken world.
But you have given us hope of a new tomorrow. You have promised your people that you will build a Kingdom that never ends.
We may be living through a time of persecution and death but there will be a day when you step down and say “enough!”
You will wipe away our tears, you will be our King and our provider. I look forward to this day with great anticipation!
I am eager for your Millennial Kingdom! I desire the renewing of the heavens and earth so that your people can live in peace – in a sin free and perfect society. You, God, will make this happen in your own time but I am anxious. I cannot wait for the day that your people will live in your presence and see your face.

Let your Kingdom come Lord!

Jesus prayed for Unity
John 17:20-23
“I’m not praying only for them. I’m also praying for those who will believe in me through their message. I pray that all of these people continue to have unity in the way that you, Father, are in me and I am in you. I pray that they may be united with us so that the world will believe that you have sent me. I have given them the glory that you gave me. I did this so that they are united in the same way we are. I am in them, and you are in me. So they are completely united. In this way the world knows that you have sent me and that you have loved them in the same way you have loved me.  (more…)

In my post A Narrow Path – https://deepcave.wordpress.com/2011/08/06/a-narrow-path/ – I laid a Biblical groundwork for what a true Christ followers faith looks like. Faith is only vibrant and authentic when our lives and actions match what it is we claim to believe. Faith is only real when our words and deeds resemble that which we claim to believe in – otherwise our faith is dead. (more…)
