In the early 90’s my dad bought a motorcycle.
I remember the day he brought it home, I was about 8 or 9 – he came riding up into the driveway with a new leather jacket and a¬†helmet. I was so excited, it was like my dad was Evil Knievel. I begged him to take me for a ride, “Please dad please!” I cried over and over again as he started it up and revved the motor. He was preparing to take it for a spin and I was adamant that he take me with him – but he wouldn’t. So I did the only sensible thing and shouted a curse at him. (more…)

Father God,
We are heading into the crucifixion weekend and I want to focus on you and you alone. Let me push all ideas about easter, bunnies, eggs, candy and all that other garbage out of my mind and focus on you and what you did to rescue us.
It’s incomprehensible, the pain and agony you endured – it should have been my pain and agony. I am the one who should have been beaten, tortured and murdered. I am the one who should have suffered hell – but you took it for me. Then you rose again to show the father was satisfied with the sacrifice! God that is what I want to remember this weekend, nothing else.

If there is one single area of Biblical teaching that I would have more authority on than any other it would be the subject of end times date setting. If there is one lesson I have learned above all it is to avoid at any cost the pitfalls of trying to calculate the return of Christ – Because this is unknowable.

Let me repeat that. If there is a single lesson that I am most qualified to teach it is this – BEWARE the snare of date-setting! I have learned this lesson the hard way and if anyone has the right to warn against it, it’s me. Do not fall into the trap of trying to calculate the return of Christ, FOR THIS IS UNKNOWABLE! A question that i’m sure everyone has heard (Or maybe even asked) is “Why do bad things happen to good people?”
We assume ourselves to be naturally good and deserving of good things – so when disaster strikes, when problems arise, when we get sick or someone we love dies, we cry out “What did I do to deserve this?” (more…)
